William C. Shannon Jr.

William C. Shannon Jr., 70, of Monroe, Ohio, died Monday at the Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village.

He was born Nov. 22, 1938, in Butler, the son of William C. Shannon and Audrey N. (Crispin) Shannon.

Mr. Shannon was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He worked at Armco Steel International from 1963 until his retirement from general management in 1985. He then worked at the Columbia Industrial Sales Corp. from 1985 to 1999 and at the Parke Home Health Care Corp. from 1988 to 1992.

Mr. Shannon was a past liaison leader for the Boy Scouts of America; an elder, trustee, deacon and financial secretary for St. Luke Presbyterian Church; an elder, trustee and deacon for the First Presbyterian Church; a member of the board of trustees for the Doty House and Senior Citizens; a member of the board of trustees for the Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village and the Ohio Presbyterian Retirement Communities; and chairman and member of the board of trustees for the Ohio Presbyterian Retirement Foundation.

He is survived by his wife, Janet A. Freehling Shannon, whom he married Aug. 27, 1960; one son, Keith D. (Syreeta) Shannon of Middletown, Ohio; one daughter, Debra (Roger) Morris of Leigh High Acres, Fla.; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Virginia (Russell) Henry of Renfrew and Sue Ellen (Dan) Anderson of Greensburg.

SHANNON — Visitation for William C. Shannon Jr., who died Monday, July 13, 2009, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until the service at noon Friday at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, Middletown, Ohio. The Rev. Tim Doty, the Rev. Karen Fleming and the Rev. Warren Silven will officiate.
