Charles “Les” Riddle

Charles L. “Les” Riddle, 89, of Clark Street, Grove City, died Monday morning at his home following a six-month illness.

Born in Wesley, Venango County, Aug. 19, 1919, he was the son of Charles Austin Riddle and Edna Mary Cokaine.

He married Adeline E. Farren on Jan. 1, 1947. She died Nov. 6, 1983.

Les was the owner of Riddle Trucking Co. in Grove City until 1980 and then began working at the former Kimes Chevrolet, now the Grove City Auto Mall, where he was still assisting on a part-time basis.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he joined on March 22, 1953.

Les was a 1935 graduate of Grove City High School, and he was a member of Methodist Men and Methodist Men's Golf League. His children presented him with a set of golf clubs in 1983, and from that time he became an avid golfer.

Les enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and gardening. He was a sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in New Guinea, Australia and the Philippines.

Surviving are three children, Lesley Geisel and her husband, Gary, of Edgewater, Md., Chuck Riddle and his wife, Teri, of Castaic, Calif., and Kathy Riegle of Rochester Hills, Mich.; five grandchildren, Ross Geisel, Zachary Riegle, Kyle Riegle, Brianna Riddle and Katelyn Riddle; a friend, Ruth Hartley of Grove City; a sister, Charlene McCullough and her husband, Irwin “Speed,” of Sharpsville; a sister-in-law, Sophie Riddle of Wesley; and a brother, James Riddle and his wife, Doris, of Harrisville.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Rose and Lynn Riddle; and a brother, Donald Riddle.

RIDDLE — Visitation for Charles L. “Les” Riddle, who died Monday, July 13, 2009, will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Cunningham Funeral Home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Paul Milliken, senior pastor and the Rev. Willard Morse, visitation pastor, both of Grace United Methodist Church of Grove City, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Mount Irwin Cemetery, Irwin Township, Venango County.Memorial tributes may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 210 S. Broad St, Grove City, PA 16127.
