Franklin man wins title at Pa. Open
OAKMONT — Justin Smith fired a 68 in the third and final round to finish at 217 and to capture the 93rd annual Pennsylvania Open Championship Wednesday at Oakmont Country Club.
Smith, of Franklin, earned $10,000 for his winning effort.
Harrisburg's Stuart Ingraham, a professional at MGOLF Driving Range and Learning Center, finished second after shooting his second consecutive 74 to finish at 215.
Rob McClellan, 29, of Butler Country Club, and Robert Rohanna, an amateur from Waynesburg and Nemacolin Woodlands, had been tied after two rounds entering play Wednesday.
McClellan, however, carded a 77 to finish in a third-place tie with top low amateur Mike Van Sickle, who shot a 68 Wednesday.
McClellan recorded rounds of 73 and 67 in the first two days.
Van Sickle, a Pine-Richland High graduate who received his degree from Marquette University last spring, had won the previous two Pennsylvania Open titles.
Christopher Ault, an amateur from Yardley, had the best score of the day. His 4-under 67 allowed him to move into a three-way tie for fifth place.
Sean Knapp, an amateur who is a member at St. Jude Golf Club in Chicora and who won the Butler Eagle Amateur Open Sunday, tied for 14th place with a score of 222.
