Purdy

Dorothy D. Purdy, 84, of Zelienople died Saturday evening at UPMC Passavant Hospital.

She was born July 9, 1924, in Willow Grove, Tenn.

"Dottie" Purdy was a long-term resident of Luther Court at the Passavant Retirement Community in Zelienople.

She was a gifted musician, organist and composer as well as a talented painter and sculptor.

Dottie was well known for providing old, favorite songs and hymns at singalongs at Passavant and the Evergreen senior centers. She brought joy to many through her unique, computer-produced greeting cards.

Earlier in life, she was involved in a variety of activities including manager of the Indian Braves Campground in Zelienople; resident manager of Stan Hywet Hall in Akron, Ohio; the "Story Lady" on radio offering meaningful entertainment to children in Naples, Fla.; and as a puppeteer performing in Ohio, New Jersey and Florida.

She is survived by her husband, John S. Purdy Jr., who she married July 12, 1945. She also is survived by three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and their children.

She was preceded in death by all her family members.
