Alvin A. Goodgasell
Alvin A. "Goody" Goodgasell, 89, of Central Ave., Chicora, died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Chicora Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 2, 1919, in Chicora. He was the son of the late George Goodgasell and the late Gertrude Scherer Goodgasell.
Mr. Goodgasell was the general foreman of the construction department at Pullman Standard in Butler, retiring in 1982 after 37 years of service.
He was a member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Chicora and the Altar-Rosary Society of the church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Butler and served on the Chicora Borough Council. He was a member and past governor of the Chicora Moose Lodge.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, was past commander of the Chicora VFW and was a member of the Chicora American Legion.
Surviving are a son, Harry Murtland and his wife, Darlene, of Flinton, Pa.; a daughter, Debbie Angert and her husband, Ken, of Chicora; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He married Mary K. Murtland Goodgasell on April 24, 1954; and she died Aug. 4, 2004. He also was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
<B>GOODGASELL</B> — Friends of Alvin A. "Goody" Goodgasell, who died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME</B>, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets in Chicora. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at the Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 409 N. Main St., Chicora, with the Rev. Steven Neff officiating.
