Bleach, water fight mildew

QUESTION: We have a screened-in lanai over our pool. With the rain we have had lately, tons of mold has grown on the screens — only to be on washed onto the deck and into the pool. Is there a way to get at the mold before it falls?ANSWER: Mixing a 50-50 (or less) solution of bleach and water that would be pump sprayed, garden hosed, or lightly pressure washed onto the screen is the right mix to clean mildew from both the screening and aluminum framing."After applying the cleaning solution, wait five minutes before spraying down the area with only water," says Mike De la Hoz, owner of Florida Pool Enclosures. This solution will have no effect on the metal, screws or spline (the black, thin material that holds the screen material in the metal track) adds De la Hoz, but before you start the cleaning, spray down all vegetation with a protective coating of water.Paul Roth is a member of the Florida Swimming Pool Association.
