Butler pro heavyweight boxer Brian Minto (33-2, 21 knockouts) was elevated to eighth in the World Boxing Organization rankings this month.
Minto opposes Donnell Holmes (31-0-2, 27 KOs), No. 13 in the WBC world rankings, for the WBO North American title Aug. 14 at Pullman Park.
The winner of that fight will attain a top-five ranking in the WBO and a lofty ranking in the WBC.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Knoch senior Allyson Cress and Butler freshman Ava Bonetti, both members of the Butler Stealth Track Club, advanced to the Junior Olympic Finals in Greensboro, N.C.Both finished second in their respective divisions at the Region 2 Junior Olympic Trials in Jamestown, N.Y. Cress threw the shot put 35 feet, ¾ of an inch in the Young Women's Division while Bonetti tossed it 31-3¾ inches in the Intermediate Girls Division.Bonetti also was second in the discus with a throw of 106-3¾.Two other Butler Steath Track Club members competed in the Region 2 event.Butler freshman Rachel Konieczny placed sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes, 42 seconds.Knoch Elementary fifth-grader Jordan Geist placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 37-8¾ and seventh in the discus with a throw of 71-8¾.
NEW CASTLE — In the second round of the American Junior Golf Association at the New Castle Country Club, Brett Rinker of Slippery Rock fired a 78 to give him a two-day total of 153, which was good for a tie for 19th place in the boys division.Rinker is 12 strokes behind Zhong Yang Fu of Bradenton, Fla., whose 69 gave him a two-day total of 141.Ryan Prokay of Grove City followed up an 80 from Tuesday with a 75 Wednesday for a 155 to put him in a tie for 29th place.In the girls division, which has 20 golfers, Marissa DeCola of Center Township carded an 81 to give her a score of 165 to move her into ninth place, eight shots behind leader Juliet Vongphoumy of Providence, R.I.Jenna Rinker of Slippery Rock shot her second consecutive 85 for a 170 to move into a 12th-place tie.The tournament will wrap up with third-round play today.
