HARRISBURG — Eleven people charged with diverting public resources to help House Democrats win campaigns will go to trial in January — exactly three years after news first broke that millions in bonuses were given to legislative aides.

A 12th person, former state Rep. Sean Ramaley, D-Beaver, goes to trial in September on charges he held a legislative job with few responsibilities so he could spend time campaigning.

Dauphin County Judge Richard Lewis announced the new trial schedule Tuesday after a daylong hearing.

Lewis did not rule on whether the defendants will be allowed to call to the stand 17 state representatives and 29 General Assembly employees who were subpoenaed to prove claims of selective prosecution and prosecutorial misconduct.

Matt Haverstick, who represents some of those who received subpoenas, said defense attorneys were not engaged in a legitimate search for information.

"Instead, it's designed to create exactly the atmosphere that we have here, a circus-type atmosphere," Haverstick told Lewis.
