Gallaher III

William E. Gallaher III, 80, of Kittanning died Friday at the ACMH Hospital.

He was born Sept. 11, 1928, the son of William E. Gallaher Jr. and Alice (Rush) Gallaher. He was a lifelong resident of Kittanning.

He worked on draglines and operated equipment for the Freebrook Corp. for many years. Later, he was a police officer for Kittanning. He retired as chief of police in 1973.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Kittanning, the Masonic Lodge 805 and the New Castle Consistory.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Dorothy (Garing) Gallaher; three sons, William E. (Bonnie) Gallaher of Kittanning, John M. (Christine) Gallaher of Hershey and Timothy J. Gallaher of Bismarck, N.D.; and one daughter, Nancy (John) Cerutti of Kittanning.

He also is survived by nine grandchildren, William, Kathleen, Lauren, Michael and Arielle Gallaher and Alicia, Jennifer, Matthew and Andrew Round; two step-grandchildren, Jessica and John Cerutti; one-great-granddaughter, Sydney Pacek; two brothers, George R. Gallaher and David M. (Carolyn) Gallaher of Kittanning; one sister, Carolyn J. (William) Waters of Ford City; one brother-in-law, Carl A. Masters and one sister-in-law, Ruth Gallaher, both of Kittanning; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James C. Gallaher; a sister, Mary Alice Master; a sister-in-law, Carol Gallaher; two nieces and two nephews.

<B>GALLAHER </B>— Friends of William E. Gallaher III, who died Friday, May 29, 2009, will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, 218 N. Jefferson St., Kittanning. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Carl A. Johnson officiating.
