Vernon R. Simmons
Vernon R. Simmons, 74, of Cabot died Monday at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born March 12, 1935, in Great Belt, he was the son of Thomas W. Simmons and Mildred E. (Bauman) Simmons.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He worked as a millwright for Saxonburg Ceramics and Printworld in Monroe, N.C.
He was a member of the Central Beagle Club and several area bowling leagues. He enjoyed sports, fishing and hunting.
Surviving are his wife, Marilyn Porter, who he married May 16, 1974; his son, Daniel (Nancy Fredericksen) Simmons of Colorado; his daughter, Deanna (Court) Pickett of South Carolina; two stepdaughters, Jackie Price of Freeport and Kelly (Mark) Saunders of North Carolina; two brothers, Dale (Nancy) Simmons of Butler and William Simmons and his fiancee, Bobby Dean, of Chicora; four sisters, Marion Andrews of Columbus, Ohio, Virginia (Kenneth) Neubert of Fenelton, Irene (Bill) Ambrose of Cabot and Shirley (Bob) Harrison of Virginia; two grandchildren, Amelia and Riley Simmons of Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Wilmer.
<B>SIMMONS</B> — Friends of Vernon R. Simmons, who died Monday, June 22, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at <B>Fox Funeral Home Inc.</B>, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Jenks officiating.
