Valerie J. Harkins, 48, of Butler passed away suddenly Saturday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

She was born July 17, 1960, in Butler, the daughter of Leonard and Emma (Snow) Nichter of Butler.

Valerie enjoyed boating and camping with her friends, cooking, baking, shopping and traveling.

She was the co-owner of Campbell Notary Service in Butler.

Surviving are her parents; her husband, David Harkins, who she married May 19, 1984; a sister, Jennifer and her husband, Richard Davis, of Slippery Rock; two brothers, Bradley Nichter and his wife, Susan, of Butler and Darrin Nichter and his fiancee, Chris Lucas, of Rimersburg; a niece; and two nephews.

<B>HARKINS</B> — Friends of Valerie J. Harkins, who died Saturday, May 16, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at <B>Young Funeral Home Ltd.</B>, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Father James Salberg from the St. Andrew Catholic Church officiating.
