Gretchen Perschke

Gretchen Perschke of Butler was named the 2009 fair queen for the Big Butler Fair.Perschke, 20, is the daughter of Tim and Sharon Perschke of Butler and is a senior at Washington and Jefferson College.The pageant was held at the Atrium in Prospect, and eight young women competed through essay, interview and persuasive speech.

Katelyn Brozenic of Slippery Rock was named fair princess,

Elyse Rectenwald of Harmony and

Debby Rockwell of Slippery Rock were named fair ambassadors. Other contestants included

Melanie Rosenbauer,

Rachelle Rankin,

Jennifer Taylor and

Erin Turner.Perschke will represent the fair at various community events and parades. She will also reign over activities during the fair July 3 to 11.———

The Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company held a carnival June 8 to 13 that ended with a raffle June 13.Raffle winners included <B>Karen Reith</B> of Sarver who won the first prize Harley Davidson motorcycle, <B>Ryan Balcom</B> of Ellwood City who won the second prize of $10,000 and <B>Steve Grady</B> of Butler who won the third prize 42-inch high-definition television. Saturday matinee winners were <B>Emma Williams</B> of Cranberry Township and <B>Corey Arlotta</B> of Butler who won bicycles.———
