Jennifer McFarland and John Smethurst

An Aug. 1 wedding is being planned by Jennifer McFarland and John Smethurst, both of Williamsburg, Va.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Ken and Jackie McFarland of Butler. Parents of the prospective bridegroom are Rick and Suzi Smethurst of Williamsburg.

The bride-elect is a 2003 graduate of Butler High School and a 2007 graduate of Grove City College. She received a master's degree in school counseling in 2009 from the College of William and Mary. She works as a school counselor at New Kent High School in New Kent, Va.

Her fiance graduated in 2000 from Lafayette High School and in 2004 from the College of William and Mary. He works as the production assistant at Williamsburg Community Chapel in Williamsburg.
