PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh prosecutors dropped a misdemeanor drug charge against Steelers wide receiver and Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes on Wednesday.

Pittsburgh police say they found three marijuana-filled cigars — or blunts — in Holmes' car when he was pulled over on Oct. 23. They pulled Holmes over because they were looking for a car similar to the one he was driving. Holmes alerted police to the drugs.

Holmes' attorney argued the traffic stop violated the football star's rights because the search warrant wasn't specific enough. Prosecutors agreed.

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh's police union says a state-proposed economic recovery plan will hurt the department's ability to retain and recruit officers.The plan is aimed at moving the city out of the financially distressed status it received in 2003. It is the second part of a long-term fiscal recovery plan overseen by the state.The proposal caps salaries for police and firefighters in 2010 and offers raises of 2 percent to 3 percent through 2014.Several City Council members also oppose the plan, which must be approved by June 30.
