William P. 'Pappy' Stoughton
William P. "Pappy" Stoughton, 92, of West Sunbury passed away at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Butler Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
He was born March 26, 1917, in Clay Township, the son of the late William C. Stoughton and Sarah A. Barkley Stoughton.
Mr. Stoughton was the oldest member of the Springdale Lutheran Church. He had been employed by the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad for more than 39 years. He also drove a school bus for Campbell Bus for 10 years. He was the secretary of Clay township for a number of years.
He is survived by a daughter, Pamela Hartman of West Sunbury; a son, Daryl Stoughton of Alexandria, Va.; and a granddaughter, Shannon Hartman, who he helped to raise.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Stoughton, who he married May 6, 1947, and who died July 1, 2004; and a son, William B. Stoughton, who died in 1950.
<B>STOUGHTON — </B>Friends of William P. "Pappy" Stoughton, who died Friday, May 8, 2009, will be received from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the<B> WILLIAM F. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME,</B> 132 Main St., West Sunbury. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. David West of Graceway Community Church officiating. Burial will be in the West Sunbury Church Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Butler Public Library.
