St. Jude Golf Club member Sean Knapp and Treesdale Golf Club assistant pro Travis Dickson were eliminated from contention for the upcoming U.S. Open at separate sectional qualifiers Monday.

Knapp shot a 141 (71-70) in a 36-hole event at the NCR Country Club in Dayton, Ohio. The total was 11 shots back of the 130 of Cortland Lowe, who placed first, and four shots from an alternate spot.

Dickson, a Knoch graduate who learned the sport while playing at Butler Country Club, played at Lake Nona Golf Club in Orlando, Fla., shooting a 154 (75-79), 18 strokes behind winner Josh McCumber and 14 shots from an alternate spot.

John Daly also fell short of qualifying.

In his first time competing in America since the PGA Tour lifted his six-month suspension, Daly managed only four birdies over 36 holes of a U.S. Open qualifier in Tennessee. He shot 1-over 143 and didn't come close to getting one of 13 spots available.

Chrysler is Dodge's parent company, and the automaker filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last month.Team co-owner Richard Petty has said the bankruptcy filing slowed the money flow from Dodge over the past few weeks.RPM fields cars for Kasey Kahne, Elliott Sadler, Reed Sorenson and AJ Allmendinger.

MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Vikings reportedly have told Brett Favre to decide this week if he wants to play this year.Coach Brad Childress imposed the deadline on the star quarterback, according to ESPN. The network Monday cited two unidentified sources on its Web site. The Sirius NFL Radio network, however, reported later without citing a source that a deadline is not in place.

IRVING, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys have no plans to bring back Adam "Pacman" Jones, the cornerback whose career has been marred by off-field problems.Cowboys owner Jerry Jones raised the possibility in a weekend interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Team spokesman Rich Dalrymple said Monday the owner had told him it wasn't going to happen.After serving a one-year suspension for violating the NFL's conduct policy, Jones was acquired by the Cowboys last summer. He was released in January after problems that included a fight with his team-provided bodyguard and a six-game suspension.

BARCELONA, Spain — Rafael Nadal is having his knees checked by doctors and expects to announce his status for Wimbledon in the coming days.A posting on Nadal's Web site Monday said the reigning Wimbledon champion is in Barcelona for medical tests. He is expected to make an announcement by Wednesday.Nadal withdrew from this week's Wimbledon tuneup at Queen's Club in London, citing knee trouble. His 31-match winning streak at the French Open ended with a fourth-round loss.Wimbledon starts June 22. Last year, Nadal beat Roger Federer at the All England Club in the longest men's championship match in tournament history.
