Eve S. Varhola

Eve S. Varhola, 84, formerly of Home Avenue, Butler, died Sunday morning at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Lyndora, May 12, 1924, a daughter of the late John and Julia Zavacky Soley Sr.

Eve was a 1942 graduate of Butler High School and had worked as a postal clerk for several years at the Lyndora Post Office during the 1940s.

A member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic in Lyndora, she also had been a member of the AARP.

She enjoyed traveling, and along with her husband, she had traveled extensively throughout the United States.

She was the widow of Michael Varhola. They were married from June 19, 1948, until his death Jan. 5, 1997. She also was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Surviving are two sisters, Helen Soley and Pat Curcio, and her husband, Michael, both of Butler; five nieces, Char D'Amato of California, Julie Browning of New York, N.Y., Maryann (Donald) Gaiser of Prospect and Susan and Nancy Curcio, both of Butler; and five nephews, John Browning of California, Robert (Susan) Browning of Florida, Leslie (Cheryl) Browning of Florida, Michael (Luann) Browning of Butler and Michael (Maria) Curcio of Kentucky. A number of grandnieces and grandnephews and a great-grandnephew also survive her.

<B>VARHOLA </B>—<B> </B>Friends of Eve S. Varhola, who died Sunday, May 3, 2009, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 105 Kohler Ave., Lyndora. Abbot Leo R. Schlosser, pastor, will officiate. Entombment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Butler.Parastas services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
