Raymond F. Slater, a resident of the Chicora Medical Center and formerly of Woodcrest Road in Butler, died Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 14, 1928, in Oakland Township, a son of the late Charles and Mary Neff Slater.

Ray was a lineman for Allegheny Power for more than 40 years, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in North Oakland. He also was a life member of both the Happy Hunters Sportsman's Club and the East Butler Fireman's Club.

He greatly enjoyed playing the guitar and singing.

Ray's wife, Eileen M. Geibel Slater, whom he married Aug. 7, 1948, survives. Also surviving are three sons and their wives, Bruce E. and Gloria Slater of Butler, Gary L. and Margie Slater of Chicora and Paul D. and Jane Slater of Butler; one sister, Mrs. Elva Leitem of Chicora; nine grandchildren, Chad, Shawn, Greg, Ray, Mike, Beth, Joshua, Philip and Jamie Slater; and eight great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.

Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

<B>SLATER </B> Friends of Raymond F. Slater, who died Saturday, April 25, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in North Oakland with Father David DeWitt, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. A parish vigil service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
