Still stinging from the disappointment of a seventh-place finish in the Class AA high jump on Friday, Angie Shaffer sought to end the PIAA Track and Field Championships on a much better note Saturday afternoon in Shippensburg.

Mission accomplished.

Shaffer, a Slippery Rock High senior, set a school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.94 to place third.

Anthonia Ballard of Swenson won the event in 14:33. Ballard placed second in the 300 hurdles.

Shaffer was one of three Butler County athletes to leave the state meet with two medals.

Butler's Logan Renwick did the same, placing fourth in the Class AAA triple jump on Friday and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles on Saturday with a time of 39.19.

In Friday's preliminaries, he set the Butler County and school record in the event with a 38.88.

Renwick fell short of getting a third medal in the long jump.

Summit Academy's Johnny Jenkins also won two state medals, placing sixth in the Class AA long jump at 22 feet, 3 inches and eighth in the high jump at 6-2.

Freeport's Nick Gentile placed third in the Class AA 800-meter run with a time of 1 minute, 55.76 seconds.

Sam Havko of Fairview won the 800 with a time of 1:52.78. He won the Class AA 1,600 meters as well. Gentile fell just short of second in the 800.

Grove City's Hana Casalnova also earned a state medal, finishing third in the Class AAA 800 with a time of 2:13.

Seneca Valley pole vaulter Mitch Codd also placed, finishing seventh with a 14-foot effort.
