Elizabeth A. Vlassich
Elizabeth Ann "Liz" Vlassich, 88 years young, of Frogtown, Sugarcreek Township, Armstrong County, passed away Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.
Born Feb. 9, 1921, in Bruceton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Louis R. Denjen and the late Elizabeth (Papp) Denjen).
She was a longtime Frogtown area resident and was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Bradys Bend.
Growing up in the coal mine town of Osage, W.Va., she worked in a company store at a young age. After marring and moving to Pennsylvania, she worked at the 5 &10 store in East Brady and later owned and operated Vlassich's Quaker State in Frogtown.
Her love and caring for her family kept her going as did a love for bingo.
She was the loving wife of 60 years of the late Joseph J. Vlassich, whom she married Dec. 17, 1941.
Survivors include a son, Ronald T. (Deanna) Vlassich of East Brady; two daughters, Betty Young of Frogtown and Janice (George) LaVan of Frogtown, with whom she lived; a son-in-law, Merle Johns of Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Denjen of West Virginia.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Johns, who passed away Dec. 26, 2008. Three infant children, two grandchildren, two brothers and a sister also preceded her in death.
<B>VLASSICH</B> Friends of Elizabeth Ann "Liz" Vlassich, who died Saturday, April 18, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home</B> in Cowansville. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with additional visitation from 9 a.m. until the service at 10 a.m. Father Joseph Bonafed will officiate.
