LATROBE — Mike Cuscino shot a two-round score of 154 to help guide the Butler County Community College golf team to a championship at the National Junior College Athletic Association regional golf tournament at Latrobe Elks Golf Club Tuesday.
The win puts the Pioneers into the June 1 national tournament in Chautauqua, N.Y.
Cuscino placed second in the tournament. Steve Bosdosh of Montgomery-Rockville won with a two-round score of 148.
Seneca Valley graduate Steve Voelker shot a 182 and Knoch graduate David Govan fired a 189.
HARRISBURG — Grove City High School senior wrestler Caleb Kolb, who finished 40-0 and a PIAA champion at 171 pounds, was honored Monday by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.Kolb was 123-27 in his career at Grove City and became the school's first state wrestling champion since 1993. He also was named Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Dapper Dan Classic in Pittsburgh.
WEST MIDDLESEX — John Aubrey Sr. of Aubreys Dubbs Dred Golf course carded a 6-under-par 65 and was the low professional at the Imperial Headwear Pro-3 Amateur Monday at Oak Tree Country Club.Rob McClellan of Butler Country Club was second with a 4-under 67.
WEIRTON, W.Va. — Nathan Smith, a member of St. Jude Golf Club, carded a 10-under 134 to win the 16th Spring Invitational golf event at Williams Country Club.Smith was nine strokes better than Knoch High golf coach Rob Voltz, who finished second in the 36-hole event.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Nine Slippery Rock University track and field athletes are headed to San Angelo, Texas, for the Division II National Championships May 21 to 23.Senior Jeff Weiss is the lone male in the group and will compete in the 5,000- and 10,000-meter runs.Freeport graduate Lacey Cochran will compete in the 400 meters, where she owns the SRU record of 55.47 seconds, and the 1,600 relay with Amanda Seigworth, Tiffany Tedesco and Allison Smith.Seigworth also will compete in the 400 hurdles and 100 hurdles, Smith in the 400 hurdles and Whitney Hendershot in the high jump.Distance runners Jenn Harpp, Laura Mucho and Jaime Wright also are headed to nationals.
