Timely hitting helps Knights beat Planets, 6-4

Brittany McDermott drove in two runs with a two-out single in the top of the seventh inning Tuesday to give the Knoch softball team a 6-4 win over Mars.

McDermott also had a triple.

Melissa Steinmiller added a two-run triple in the fourth inning for the Knights (6-9, 3-8).

Amanda Sheppeck picked up the win, striking out 10 in six innings. Chelsea Martin worked a perfect seventh for the save.

Kaitlin Conner took the loss for the Planets (1-14, 1-11).

In other games:

• Samantha Bly homered and pitcher Brandi Dunkle cruised through six innings with nine strikeouts as Karns City (7-1, 6-0) routed Cranberry 11-1 in six innings.

• Karly Kaufman had two home runs and seven RBI as A-C Valley overcame a slow start against Tidioute Charter to notch an 18-3 win.

The Falcons scored 16 runs in the final three innings after falling behind 3-2.
