PITTSBURGH — A bride and groom have accepted plea deals instead of facing trial on charges they brawled on their wedding night with another wedding party staying at the same hotel.

Dr. David Wielechowski, 33, a dentist from Shaler Township, will enter a probation program for first-time offenders. His record will be expunged if he provides free dental care to needy children for six months. Wielechowski would have lost his state dental license had he been convicted of the felony aggravated assault charge he faced.

His wife couldn't enter the first-offender program because of a past drunken driving conviction. Instead, Christa Wielechowski, 26, pleaded guilty to six counts of harassment. She'll spend six months on house arrest and pay $600 in fines.

Allegheny County prosecutors said members of another wedding party saw Dr. Wielechowski kick his wife during an argument at the hotel in Ross Township in April 2008, but both Wielechowskis attacked when they tried to help her, authorities said. One victim suffered a fractured wrist and a broken tooth.

The defendants have claimed they were merely defending themselves when attacked by members of the other wedding and denied they were fighting beforehand. Christa Wielechowski objected before she was sentenced Tuesday by Common Pleas Judge John Zottola.
