Beverly Jean Lane Byers, 81, of Byers Lane, Karns City, passed away at 2 a.m. Wednesday at her home following an illness.

She was born in Davey, W.Va., Sept. 25, 1927, and was a daughter of the late William Conn Lane and Minnie Maretta Marshall Lane.

She was a member of the Karns City United Methodist Church and attended church at the Trinity United Methodist Church in DeLand, Fla., for 18 years while wintering there.

She graduated from the Charleston General Hospital School of Nursing in Charleston, W.Va., with a registered nursing degree in 1948 and then received a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Slippery Rock University in 1980.

She worked at Butler Memorial Hospital in the pediatric and maternity departments, retiring in 1988. Following retirement, she was employed at the Butler County Community College teaching part time in the nursing program.

She married Robert C. Byers on Dec. 4, 1948, in Queenstown, Armstrong County. He survives along with three sons and their wives, David Robert Byers and Lucinda of Kissimmee, Fla., Daniel Lane Byers and Ginger of Erie and Michael Conn Byers and Cindy of Karns City; four grandchildren, Julie Ann Byers of Kissimmee, Fla., David Clayton Byers of Kissimmee, Fla., Kelly Lorraine Byers of Erie and Michaila Grace Byers of Karns City; two brothers, William Conn Lane of Richmond, Va., and James Marshall Lane and Sue of Dayton, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Martha Ann Asbury of Deland, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death, along with her parents, were two grandchildren, Katie Danielle Byers and Rebecca Lynn Byers; two sisters, Katherine Sizemore and Patsy Ruth Schrader; one sister-in-law, Patsy Lane; and one brother-in-law, Robert Asbury.

<B>BYERS</B> Friends of Beverly Jean Lane Byers, who died Wednesday, April 1, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the <B>Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home </B>in Petrolia and from 1 to 2 p.m. Palm Sunday at the Karns City United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Dr. John W.
