Army Sgt. Maj.
Richard Vangenewitt Jr. will retire from the military in October and will be released May 18 from active duty from the 101st Airborne Division.He is the son of Rich Vangenewitt of Penn Township and Judy DePastino of Pittsburgh.The North Catholic High School graduate enlisted in the Army in November 1983 and began his training in April 1984 at Fort Benning, Ga.He was first assigned to the 3rd Ranger Battalion, Fort Benning, as a as a rifleman and platoon sniper. During his career, he has served at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Fort Benning; Fort Bragg, N.C.; Fort Bliss, Texas; Fort Campbell, Ky.; and was deployed in Operation Iraqi Freedom on three occasions.His is the recipient of numerous military awards and decorations.Vangenewitt earned an associate degree in general education and is pursuing a bachelor's degree in resource management from Troy University.Vangenewitt is married to the former Lynn Ann Haig of Pittsburgh. They make their home at Fort Campbell, Ky., and plan to relocate to the Butler area.———Army Reserve Spec.
Stephen Crofoot returned to the 354th Public Affairs Mobile Detachment, Coraopolis, after being deployed in Operation Iraqi Freedom.Crofoot is a broadcast journalist with three years of military service.He is the son of Theresa A. and Kenneth C. Faith of Boyers.———Army National Guard Pvt.
Cory Fogle graduated from Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.He is the son of John and Carol Fogle of Harmony.Fogle graduated from Seneca Valley High School in 2004.
