Valerie B. Schnitski, 91, formerly of Polk Street, died Sunday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Jan. 11, 1918, in Butler, a daughter of the late John and Valeria Srohar Nemcek.

Val was a retired beautician. She owned her own shop, Val's Beauty Salon, for more than 40 years until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of the Butler Hairdressers' Association and the Pennsylvania Hairdressers' Association. She also was a licensed electrolysis technician and was a member of the Pennsylvania Electrolysis Association.

Val was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Butler and PARC.

She became famous in Butler for designing and making a dress entirely made of Armco steel.

Her husband, Michael C. Schnitski, who she married May 22, 1940, preceded her in death March 29, 2002.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Jean Denny and Michele Evans, both of Butler, and Janeen McMillin of Brookville; a brother, Joseph Nemcek of Butler; and a sister, Mrs. Marie Kelly of Butler. Seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson and several nieces and nephews also survive her.

Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

<B>SCHNITSKI </B>—<B> </B>Friends of Valerie B. Schnitski, who died Sunday, March 29, 2009, will be received from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. in Butler, where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Entombment will take place at the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum at Butler County Memorial Park.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
