Social Security office to move

The U.S. Social Security Administration office is moving to the Pullman Square Business Park from the Holly Pointe Building on South Main Street in Butler.

The new office will open May 18.

Darla Rine, operations supervisor for the office, said the new building, which Social Security is leasing from a New Jersey firm, is nearing completion. Construction began in September.

Located just in front of the Public Assistance office and the Butler County Housing Authority's office near Kmart in the Pullman Square Shopping Center, the building will double Social Security's space.

"We will continue to provide all of our services — issuing Social Security cards, filing for benefits, filing for Medicare and Supplementary Security Insurance or SSI, but also have the space to hold front-end interviewing," Rine said.

It also will provide better access, especially for handicapped clients.

The office has 13 employees and now new hires are expected with the move, which will occur over the weekend of May 16.

"The Main Street office will be open on May 15, and the new office will open on May 18," Rine said. "We will have a skeleton crew on that Friday, as we prepare for the move, so people can also call the administration directly at 800-772-1213, or wait until May 18 for local help."

The Butler office's phone number will remain the same, 724-282-7274, as well as its hours, Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"We're going to miss Main Street, but we are looking forward to the new space," Rine said.
