Tensions rise on road work
ADAMS TWP - A representative from a housing development company was denied action on revisions for a project Monday night after a brief argument with the township supervisors.
Brett Schultz, an engineer with Weaver Master Builders of Mars, went to the meeting to present revisions to the Village at Camp Trees housing plan.
Supervisor Donald Aiken told Schultz the township made a previous agreement with the company that no final plans for the development would be approved before the company drafted a plan to upgrade Camp Trees Road.
The Village at Camp Trees housing development would include 60 units in Adams Township and 27 units in Pine Township, Allegheny County. The one-acre lots would straddle the border between Butler and Allegheny counties.
Schultz attended the meeting to introduce an alteration of the plan but was turned away when Aiken said he still hadn't seen design plans to fix Camp Trees Road.
Aiken told Schultz the company has been "dragging their feet" in submitting plans to fix the road and the process should have been completed "months ago."
He also said the township has received limited correspondence from the company and that he's getting tired of roadblocks that have stalled the development for three years.
Schultz said his company has sent letters to the township on several occasions discussing its plans for the road, letters Aiken said he's never seen.
Aiken became agitated when Schultz said Camp Trees Road already meets ordinance requirements and that the company decided to upgrade the road in a spirit of cooperation.
Aiken told Schultz he'd call Bill Weaver, owner of the company, Tuesday morning to resolve the conflict. He also said the supervisors want to see plans for Camp Trees Road by the end of June.
In October 2007, the supervisors approved the first phase of the housing development, which includes 36 homes.
They approved the first phase on the stipulation that the developer would improve Camp Trees Road and make improvements to its intersection with Mars Valencia Road.
