Murphy's Law was in effect for Thursday afternoon's baseball game between Mars and Knoch.

Unfortunately for the Planets, they were on the wrong end of it.

The Knights managed 12 hits in a 15-0, three-inning victory at Pullman Park.

Knoch's Cullen Hinderliter not only was the winning pitcher, he belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning that put the Knights up 4-0.

Knoch (5-7, 4-2) also received three hits and three runs scored from leadoff hitter Sam Stone.

"We've been hitting the ball better, but we still have some work to do," said Knoch coach Curt Schnur.

For Mars coach Brian Hobaugh, it was a frustrating game to watch. Though the Planets (3-9, 1-5) committed only two errors, several apparently routine fly balls fell to the ground in the outfield.

"It's frustrating," Hobaugh said. "I know a team needs to get used to the dimensions of (the Pullman Park) field, but we didn't catch a fly ball."

Dan Brent took the loss after pitching one-plus innings, striking out two and walking a batter. He gave up six runs on five hits before being relieved by Nick Comport in the second inning.

Senior Chris Herold was on the mound for Mars when Nathan Junk ended the game with a one-out, three-run double in the bottom of the third inning.

Hinderliter struck out six, walked three and gave up four hits in the victory.

Leading 8-0 in the top of the third, Hinderliter surrendered a leadoff single to Herold before issuing back-to-back free passes to Donnie Trapp and Luke Gruber to load the bases.

The sequence prompted a visit from Schnur, after which Hinderliter struck out Andrew Rush and Dylan Bear, and got Comport to fly out to keep Mars off the scoreboard.

"I just told him that he was in control," Schnur said. "When you have a lead like that, you just have to go at guys, throw strikes."
