It's been an emotional week better make that season for the Knoch boys track and field team.

The program is celebrating its 50th season and found itself in a new section, finally away from powerhouse teams such as North Allegheny, Butler, Seneca Valley, North Hills and Shaler.

Also, in the past week, two members of the Knoch track family died: Dale Mahan, who was the head coach for 25 years and posted a 179-40 record, four section titles and seven undefeated seasons, and Paul Giesey, the longtime football coach who also served as an assistant track coach for years.

On Monday, the Knights capped their section season with a 100-32 victory over Mars to wrap up the Section 4-AAA crown at 5-0 and 10-0 overall.

"It was nice (Monday) ... to try and carry on that legacy," said Knoch boys coach Wess Brahler. "The last time Knoch went undefeated was 1992, 17 years. This has been a pretty special year."

Brian Tackett (800, 1,600), Andrew Rumburg (200, 400) and Dylan Beck (long and triple jumps) were double individual winners for the Knights.

"We got to celebrate Senior Night, so everything just came together," said Brahler.
