PITTSBURGH Gov. Ed Rendell has presented a $1 million grant to the Pittsburgh Opera for its capital campaign for its new home.

Christopher Hahn, the opera's general director, says with the grant, the campaign is approaching its $8 million goal. The opera has pledges of $7.7 million.

The opera had to find a new home when the Cultural District said it had other plans for the building that had been its home for 10 years. The new home will be in the city's Strip District.
