BUTLER TWP The public can attend a free program next week to learn how make your home more energy efficient.

The Go Electric seminar, sponsored by the Parker-based Central Electric Cooperative, will be at 7 p.m. April 21 at the Fairfield Inn on Route 8 near Route 422.

Those who attend can learn how heating and cooling options with electricity can save money, and about state and federal funding programs to help finance home improvement projects.

Vendors will be available before and after the program to explain their products and answer questions.

EMLENTON, Venango County Aqua Pennsylvania, the water company that recently bought the Emlenton Water System, has announced that it will spend $120,000 in the Pearl Street area of the river town.The project will replace and improve about 2,300 feet of water line with an 8-inch main.The project will begin soon and should be completed by the end of May.It is the start of line replacements the company is planning in Emlenton.According to a company news release, Aqua has spent more than $100,000 on the water treatment plant since buying it in December.The company plans to upgrade or replace the plant and to have the new plant in operation by July 2012.

HOUSTON, Pa. State regulators say the new $175 million slots parlor at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino can open as scheduled today.Gaming regulators approved the opening after the casino held an invitation-only trial run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.The event raised about $254,000 to benefit volunteer fire companies in Washington County, where the casino is located about 15 miles south of Pittsburgh.The Meadows' temporary slots parlor opened in June 2007 with 1,825 machines. The permanent casino facility is a major part of the $450 million that Cannery Casino Resorts is investing in The Meadows.The new casino has more than 3,700 slot machines.
