Alice M. Waltman
Alice M. Pruss Waltman, 79, of Chicora died beside her husband at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday while en route to the hospital.
She was born in Carnegie, Dec. 31, 1929, to the late John and Tillie Pruss.
She graduated from the Scott Township High School in 1946. She received her degree as a registered nurse from the St. John's Nursing School in 1950.
After graduated from nursing school, she initially did private nursing duties and later spent 25-plus years as a night duty nurse with the Chicora Medical Center.
On Oct. 8, 1955, Alice married Bernard J. "Bun" Waltman of Chicora. Since 1955, they have lived at their present address. Mrs. Waltman had seven children in eight years.
She belonged to the St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church, Carbon Center. She previously had been active in the Christian Mothers group and other church activities.
She was a current member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She had been a member of the Hiland Ladies Golf League and the Precious Stones Bowling League. She also like to eat out, garden, read and play cards and enjoyed swimming in the homemade pond named Lake Alice.
She is survived by her children, Cynthia (Rob) Garcia of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Dr. Bonnie (Roland) Catalano of West Friendship, Md., Daniel (Becky (Waltman) of Fenelton, Mary (John) Piwowarski of Avon Ind., Richard Waltman of Chicora, Timothy (Charlotte) Waltman of Fenelton and Dr. Teena Waltman of Cranberry Township.
She also is survived by 13 grandchildren, Andrew and Christie Garcia, Chris, Ryan and Lauren Catalano, Dan and Shelby Waltman, Joe, Kristen and Marissa Piwowarski and Brendan, Makayla and Nathan Waltman; two great-grandsons; her sister, Florence (Jim) Petrie; her brother, John (Sally) Pruss; her sister-in-law, Peg Pruss; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jerimiah Waltman; and a brother, Charles Pruss.
<B>WALTMAN</B> — Friends of Alice M. Pruss Waltman, who died Tuesday, March 10, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>Steighner Funeral Home</B>, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets, Chicora. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church, 210 St. Wendelin Road, with the Rev.
