North Catholic’s Riley Kontul is moving on to the PIAA Individual Golf Championships.

The junior shot a 10-over 82 Monday at Valleybrook Country Club to finish fourth in the WPIAL Class 2A Girls Individual Golf Championship, securing a medal and a trip to Penn State on Oct. 19-20.

She is the lone Butler County-area representative playing in the WPIAL championships to make states so far — girls 3A and 2A competed Monday, as did boys 3A, with boys 2A’s final round set to tee off Tuesday.

Kontul’s two-round total was 28-over. She birdied Monday on the par-5 fifth hole.

It was a more difficult day for Butler’s Levi McClellan. The senior ended Round 1 last week inside the top 14 the WPIAL sends to states, but shot a 10-over at Sewickley Heights Golf Club to finish tied for 16th at 14-over for the two rounds and two strokes out of qualifying.

McClellan started strong with an eagle on the third hole to sit 1-over on the front nine but made par on just two holes on the back nine.

Seneca Valley’s Josh Marquardt finished 17-over after two rounds to tie for 23rd, and Mars’ Landon Mitro was one shot behind.

Mars’ Elise Wadas, a junior, shot 13-over Monday at Valleybrook and finished 27-over through two rounds to tie for eighth. She was one shot shy of claiming the final spot to states.

NC’s GiGi Colafella and Brea Kelley finished 13th and 14th in 2A.
