WEXFORD A woman is hospitalized but in police custody after they say she shot her ex-husband then apparently turned the gun on herself.

Northern Regional police say Dr. Daniel Kelly Agnew is in an unspecified city hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police say 46-year-old Lynne Agnew shot him after confronting her ex-husband outside the home they once shared in Pine Township at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Lynne Agnew now lives in Pittsburgh.

Police called a SWAT team and waited for three hours before Lynne Agnew surrendered, suffering from a chest wound. Police heard what sounded like a gunshot in the house about 7:30 p.m., but she didn't surrender until shortly before 9 p.m.

The conditions of the couple have not been released.

YORK A south-central Pennsylvania driver accused of text-messaging just before a crash that killed a pedestrian has been sentenced to prison.Twenty-two-year-old Brian Widmayer, of Dover, pleaded no contest to homicide by vehicle and careless driving resulting in an unintentional death, as well as driving with an expired license. He was sentenced Thursday to 10 to 23 months in York County Prison.Widmayer said he does not recall the events immediately before or after his vehicle hit 43-year-old David Peters, of Red Lion, in May 2007.But the York County District Attorney's office says his cell phone received one text message and sent another seconds before it dialed 911.Peters had Huntington's disease and was unable to walk upright or without a cane.

READING Some of author John Updike's ashes are now at the site of his parents' graves.Three of Updike's four children returned to Berks County to spread the ashes and visit Reading, Shillington and the Plowville family homestead. That's a 39-acre farm in Robeson owned by Updike's second cousin, Emerson Gundy, and Gundy's wife, Marlene.The farm became the author's home at age 13 when his parents, Wesley and Linda Updike, moved there from Shillington.
