Doctor with ties to BMH in critical condition after shooting
PINE TWP, Allegheny County A township doctor, with an office in Center Township and an affiliation with Butler Memorial Hospital, is in critical condition this morning in a Pittsburgh hospital after his ex-wife allegedly shot him Sunday evening at his Pine Township house.
Police said Dr. D. Kelly Agnew, 43, suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He is in the trauma unit at Allegheny General Hospital.
His ex-wife, Lynne Agnew, 46, also was shot, and police are looking into the possibility that her wound was self-inflicted.
Agnew is an orthopedic surgeon who has an office with Tri-Rivers Surgical Associates on Babcock Boulevard in Pittsburgh. He also sees patients at the Butler Bone & Joint Center on Clearview Circle in Center Township. He is affiliated with both UPMC Passavant and BMH.
A spokeswoman at BMH said this morning Agnew joined the hospital staff in 1994 and also sits on the board of directors.
Lynne Agnew is charged by Allegheny County Police with attempted homicide and aggravated assault, according to court documents.
Police said Agnew shot her ex-husband after confronting him outside the home they once shared in Pine Township at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday. She now lives in the Shadyside section of Pittsburgh, although court documents identify her as of Gibsonia.
Police called a SWAT team and waited for three hours before Lynne Agnew surrendered, suffering from a chest wound. Police heard what sounded like a gunshot in the house about 7:30 p.m., but she didn't surrender until shortly before 9 p.m.
