A-C Valley student dies
FOXBURG— An autopsy is scheduled today to try to determine what caused the death Wednesday of a 14-year-old student in the Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District.
Meanwhile, staff and students at the high school are trying to deal with the boy's unexpected death. His name has not been released.
The boy was taken by ambulance to a hospital emergency room after collapsing at the high school in the afternoon. The school nurse did CPR on the teen before emergency crews arrived.
Terry Shaffer, Clarion County coroner, was called to the hospital about 1:45 p.m. where the boy was pronounced dead. Shaffer said this morning neither foul play nor drugs are suspected.
This morning he was taking the boy's body to Erie for an autopsy.
Immediately, the district's Student Assistance Program was initiated, said Superintendent Brenda Brinker this morning. Today, counselors are in both the high school and the elementary school to help students and staff who are grieving.
"We're working to provide student support," she said.
A letter will be sent to parents today, she said.
She declined to give any other details regarding the incident.
