PITTSBURGH — The family of a motorist fatally shot by a Pennsylvania state trooper is considering a lawsuit, and their attorney has already spoken to another lawyer who sued the same trooper for $12.5 million in another shooting.

Authorities say Trooper Samuel Nassan III fired the shot that killed 33-year-old Nicholas Haniotakis of Pittsburgh on Sunday as he fled from a roving DUI patrol and reportedly tried to run down officers.

Pittsburgh attorney James Ecker says he spoke to lawyer Geoffrey Fieger about the case. Fieger sued Nassan for shooting an unarmed 12-year-old boy in 2002, but Ecker says that doesn't necessarily mean Fieger will be involved if Nassan is sued again.
