MINNEAPOLIS — Butler graduate Molly Evans, who competed for Carnegie Mellon University in the NCAADivision IIISwimming and Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota, placed fifth in the 500-yard freestyle Wednesday.

A sophomore, Evans swam the event in a school-record time of 4 minutes, 54.34 seconds. She will compete in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard backstroke today and Saturday.

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers president Art Rooney II says he and his father Dan Rooney are looking for additional partners.The Rooneys are seeking investors so they can buy shares from Dan Rooney's brothers that would separate the Steelers from the family's gaming interest and satisfy NFL rules regarding ownership equity.Art Rooney says one potential investor has been approved by the NFL's finance committee and the others will go before the committee as part of ownership meetings next week in California.Art Rooney isn't saying who the potential investors are, but said Thursday one is a "very recognizable name."

NEW YORK — Whitey Lockman, who doubled ahead of Bobby Thompson's "Shot Heard Round The World" that clinched the 1951 NL pennant, died Tuesday, the Daily News reported in Friday editions. He was 82.Lockman, who lived in Scottsdale, Ariz., told the Daily News last week that he was fighting pulmonary fibrosis. Lockman's wife, Linda, told the News Thursday night that her husband's death was "very, very sudden."Lockman was an outfielder and first baseman and played with the Giants from 1945-1958. His career, which ended in 1960, also included stints with the Cardinals, Orioles and Reds. He was a career .279 hitter with 114 home runs and was an All-Star in 1952.Lockman managed the Cubs from 1972-74.
