Clarence Hunsberger

Clarence L. "Shanty" Hunsberger, 81, of Mercer, formerly of Chicora, died at 4:05 p.m. Monday at Sharon Regional Hospital following a lingering illness.

Born Dec. 8, 1927, in Karns City, he was the son of the late William Hunsberger and the late Viola M. Plunkard Hunsberger.

He served with the Army in the Korean War.

He worked in maintenance at Butler Memorial Hospital for 21 years, and from 1974 to 1987, he worked for the Mercer County Living Center, where he retired.

He was very much involved with the Oasis Family Worship Center, where he was active with the maintenance of the church and the church campground.

He also was a member of the Chicora American Legion and a member of the Butler Memorial Hospital Bowling League.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy West Schuster Hunsberger, whom he married April 21, 1973; a son, Christopher Schuster and his wife, Linnea, of Waterloo, N.Y.; a grandson, Dalton Marshall Schuster of Waterloo, N.Y.; a brother, James F. Hunsberger and his wife, Darley, of Oakdale; two aunts, Esther Ashbaugh of Knox and Beulah "Boots" McCormick of Chicora; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Audrey Schmidt, who died March 5, 1922.

<B>HUNSBERGER</B> — Friends of Clarence L. "Shanty" Hunsberger, who died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the <B>STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME</B>, at 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets in Chicora. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. James Fleck, pastor of the Oasis Family Worship Center, 655 Clarksville Road, Hermitage, officiating.
