Alvin L. "Al" Baird, 82, of Mars died Thursday morning at UPMC Cranberry Place.

Born in Sharpsburg, June 17, 1926, he was the son of the late David and Ruth Weichel Baird.

He was an accountant for ARCO and B.P. Oil.

He had served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Surviving are two daughters, Deborah Baird of St. Louis, Mo., and Sue E. Messina of Audubon, Montgomery County; a brother, David Baird in Gibsonia; a sister, Betty Lou Barry of Glenshaw; and two grandchildren, Jennifer and Richard Messina.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Lorentz Baird, whom he married March 17, 1950, and who died Aug. 11, 2003.
