Stores to open as planned
BUTLER TWP — Pancake lovers will have to wait awhile longer for the economic climate to get better before they can eat their favorite food at Butler Crossing.
The International House of Pancakes, IHOP, has held up construction of a new restaurant in the Cedarwood Development shopping center on New Castle Road.
Randall Hake, Cedarwood's director of development, said Tuesday that like many restaurants, "IHOP is rethinking its strategy, waiting a little while even though they want to be in the Butler market."
Hake said many retailers are waiting to see how the economic programs of President Obama's administration fare as far as new sources of funding before they proceed.
As for the rest of the development, which expands on Cedarwood's earlier Butler Commons Shopping Center, Hake said construction is moving right along.
McDonald's restaurant opened in December, and First Commonwealth Bank and Clearview Credit Union plan to open in 30 to 45 days.
Tenants of the small shops are working to open this spring, including Radio Shack, Dunkin' Donuts, Verizon, Original Mattress Factory, Sally's Beauty Supply and Great Clips. Hake said Cedarwood is completing a lease agreement with a national pizza chain for the eighth and final store front.
As for the larger retail shops to the rear of the property, construction continues on Kohl's, Ross, Petco, Dollar Tree, Michael's Crafts, Shoe Carnival and Fashion Bug.
"I want to thank all of the township and county officials who have been so easy to work with. Its been a pleasure," Hake said.
