Hospital network has quarterly loss
PITTSBURGH — Southwestern Pennsylvania's second-largest hospital network said it lost $5.6 million for the quarter that ended Dec. 31.
The West Penn Allegheny Health System's chief executive Dr. Christopher Olivia said he expects the hospitals to become profitable by July.
West Penn Allegheny lost $63 million in the fiscal year that ended June 30. The hospital blamed that loss on a $73 million accounting error that overstated its net accounts receivable.
The network operates six hospitals, including Allegheny General and West Penn in Pittsburgh.
The health system lost $17.3 million for the quarter ending Sept. 30.
