Drunken ambulance driver gets jail time
PITTSBURGH — An Evans City woman charged with killing two men when her ambulance slammed into a car at a Route 19 intersection in Marshall Township, Allegheny County, was sentenced today to an 11Z\x-to-23-month term in the Allegheny County Jail.
Shanea Leigh Climo, 23, started her sentence today.
Following the crash in September 2007, Climo's blood-alcohol reading was 0.07 percent, just under the state minimum for drunken driving. She was tested about an hour after the early morning crash.
However, the prosecutor said her level had been somewhat above the limit at the time of the accident.
Common Pleas Judge Randal Todd showed little remorse for Climo at her sentencing. Todd said Climo's is the fifth DUI-related homicide case he's presided over this year and that he's tired of seeing heartbroken families in his courtroom.
"To the families, my heart goes out to you," he said. "This is the part of my job I hate the most. Frankly, I'm sick of these cases."
He also sentenced Climo to five years of probation, 500 hours of community service, a $300 fine and drug and alcohol counseling. He also recommended random drug testing during the probationary period.
