INDIANA — A coroner has ruled out bacterial meningitis in the death of an Indiana University of Pennsylvania student found in his dorm room last week.

Indiana County Coroner Michael Baker says more test results are needed to pinpoint the cause of death of 18-year-old Douglas James Haney, of Bellefonte. He was found dead Feb. 10 when campus police were asked to check on his welfare.

Campus police and Baker say they don't expect foul play. The student's friends told police he had been sick and they last saw him the day before he was found dead.

Baker says he didn't suspect meningitis, but he decided to announce he had ruled it out after receiving repeated calls.
