Zac Smith had 19 points and five assists, and Scott Booth added 16 points to power the Union boys basketball team to a 65-44 first-round District 9 Class A playoff victory over Port Allegany Wednesday.

The Golden Knights took a 32-20 halftime lead, but they used a 20-point third quarter to take control.

"Scott Booth got in foul trouble early, but the others picked it up well," said Union coach Karen Davis.

"Zac Smith had a heck of a third quarter. He had 10 points and that really helped. Sometimes we come out sluggish in the third quarter, but the last few games we haven't and that's made a difference,"Davis added.

Logan Mortimer had 10 points and Neil Scott had eight points and 10 rebounds for Union (15-8).

Bryce Healy and Josh Guerrero had 14 points apiece, and Greg Gustin had 12 to lead Port Allegany (15-7).

Union plays at Keystone (21-2) at 7 p.m. Friday.
