County wrong on Boscov's
It is official. Sanity and common sense have vacated the Butler County Commissioners Office.
After reading the headline "Commissioners back loan to Boscov's" in the Feb. 10 edition of the Butler Eagle, one can only draw that conclusion.
What were these elected officials thinking? Don't they read other newspapers?
In the Jan. 29 edition of the Harrisburg Patriot-News, the headline read, "Boscov's reports record month; December earnings hit $26 million." The chairman reported a profit (his words not mine) of $26 million.
Then in the Jan. 30 edition of the same newspaper, the headline was "Despite big profit, Boscov's seeks help."
Notwithstanding the fact that Boscov's had a record profit of $26 million, the chairman continued to beg for a $35 million handout to maintain a footing in the market.
It seemed that Butler County was not going to be duped into the Boscov's scheme until the commissioners received a letter from Gov. Ed Rendell, a huge proponent of the loan.
Boscov's has donated thousands of dollars to the Rendell campaign and political machine. No wonder the governor wants to help them out.
The Boscov's loan is nothing more than continuation of Rendell's pumping money into Philadelphia and its surrounding counties to massage his politicos.
If this were a Butler County company, would the commissioners jump to their assistance, or would they need a letter from the governor and/or a check on their political donations?
It is unconscionable that Boscov's continued asking for a handout while depositing a $26 million profit check — and that the Butler County commissioners would fall for this "bovine scatology."
