Donald L. Crawford

Donald L. Crawford, 75, of West Sunbury, formerly of the Chicora area, passed away unexpectedly at 12:36 p.m. Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 17, 1933, in Butler. He was the son of the late Lewis Crawford and the late Helen Shields Crawford.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and had guarded the Berlin Wall for 18 months.

He was a former member of the Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Chicora.

He was a 1952 graduate of Chicora High School. He was a retired truck driver and had worked for Dunmyre Motor Express and Trinity Industries.

He was a member of the Boyers Sportsman's Club and the Teamsters 538 Retirees.

He enjoyed his camp in Tionesta, hunting, fishing, sharpening and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Louise J. Steiner Crawford, whom he married July 7, 1956; four daughters, Mrs. Alan (Sandra) Hempfling of West Sunbury, Linda Porter of West Sunbury, Mrs. William (Beverly) Porter of West Sunbury and Mrs. Randy (Beth Ann "Butch") Clem of New Castle; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Mrs. Jack (Kay) Kastler of Amhearst, Ohio, and Mrs. Edward (Donna) Tanner of Tallahassee, Fla.; two brothers and their wives, Denny and Eileen Crawford of Cabot and Robert and Cecelia George of Butler; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law.

<B>CRAWFORD</B> — Friends of Donald L. Crawford, who died Saturday,Jan. 10, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>William F. Young Funeral Home</B>, 132 Main St., West Sunbury. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Louis Catholic Church with Father James Bedillion of St. Alphonsus Parish officiating. Burial will be in the West Sunbury Union Cemetery.
