The South Butler School Board Wednesday night:• Bought 492 cafeteria trays for the Knoch High School and Knoch Middle School for $3,721. The district currently uses styrofoam trays for some meals at a cost of $4 per day.• Bought equipment from Pittsburgh Stage for use at South Butler Intermediate Elementary School stage. The purchase includes stage rigging, a cyclorama track and counterweights for backdrops for $20,775. The work should be done in time for the spring concerts.• Agreed to investigate renting a section of the campus for crop farming. The land is farmed by the Jefferson CenterPresbyterian Church, which donates the profits to the Foods Resource Bank. When the district bought the land, it agreed the church could farm the land through 2008. Now, the church has asked for an extension because the district has no immediate plans to develop the land.
The Slippery Rock Borough Council Tuesday:• Announced Tuesday's council meeting will have a discussion on whether or not to hire a borough manager.• Heard from police officer Brian Hoak that a group of Slippery Rock University students set fire to some furniture in the parking lot of the Pine Glen apartments on Kiester Road Sunday night following the Pittsburgh Steelers' win in the Super Bowl.
