NEW CASTLE — The former head of the parking authority is accused of stealing more than $101,000 from parking meters.

Lawrence County officials say Gary Stone Jr., 33, of New Castle stole the money when he headed the authority beginning in 2006. They say he submitted $71 in meter receipts for 2006 and $271 for 2007.

When police took over the meter collections for the first time last year, they collected more than $54,000.
